Rarity: Black-winged pratincole in the Po Delta.
Today, finally, I went to see the Black-winged pratincole found in Boccasette (RO) on 06/05/16 by my friend Menotti Passarella. It was not a lifer for me because I had already observed this species in Casei Gerola (PV) in August 2014. But it does not happen very often to see such a rarity close to home.
Oggi finalmente sono stato a vedere la pernice di mare orientale trovata a Boccasette (RO) il 06.05.16 dall'amico Menotti Passarella.
Non era per me un lifer dal momento che l'avevo già osservata a Casei Gerola (PV) nell' agosto 2014 ma non capita spesso di vedere una simile rarità vicino a casa.
The pratincole associate with a glareola pratincola colony that consists of about 40 individuals. This colony located in a private swamp called "Valle Chiusa" or "Valle Palua" could be observed closely so we have enjoyed very good and close observations.
La pernice frequenta una colonia di glareola pratincola composta da circa 40 individui. Tale colonia sita in una valle privata chiamata "Valle Chiusa" o "Valle Palua" è osservabile da vicino per cui abbiamo goduto di ottime e ravvicinate osservazioni.
One of the most surprising and interesting things for me was being able to listen and learn to recognize the flight call of the nordmanni. Listening the call was possible to identify the pratincole in flight as it approached. A recording can be heard here: http://www.xeno-canto.org/315910
Una delle cose più sorprendenti ed interessanti per me è stato il poter ascoltare ed imparare a riconoscere il verso della nordmanni. Tramite il verso era possibile identificare la pernice mentre si avvicinava in volo.

Having spent the morning in Boccasette I had to go home but the day would have given me another rarity ... the pectoral sandpiper ... go to the next post.

Dopo aver passato la mattinata a Boccasette sono dovuto tornare a casa ma la giornata mi avrebbe riservato un altra rarità... il piovanello pettorale... vai al prossimo post.
